The Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, today paid a working visit to NAVRC . The visit provided opportunity for the Minister to gain first hand knowledge on the various research activities being carried out by the Centre, with regards to containment of Arthropod-borne vectors and diseases outbreak across Nigeria.
Presenting the overview of the Centre; Dr. Ochu Josephine, highlighted some of the major progress made by the Centre in the areas of infrastructure, manpower development and active vector surveillance especially in recent times.
The Minister during the visit, embarked on tour of the different Sections and facilities at the Centre, for direct assessment of the activities of the Centre.
At each of the Sections visited; the Honorable Minister and his Team were provided with information and knowledge of the different equipment and research activities being conducted in each of the sections.
The Honorable Minister for State carrying out inspection of the NAVRC’s mosquito coloniesThe Head of Molecular Laboratory, Mrs. Ranti Okesade, took time to explain some of the molecular vector analysis activities carried out in the Molecular laboratory and some of their major challenges.
Also during the tour of the sections, the Minister met on ground and interacted with participants who were currently being trained by NAVRC on Basic PCR Techniques and Phytochemical analysis at the time of his visit.

At the end of the visit, the Minister pledged the commitment of the present administration in providing support that will improve the overall health system in the country, and with focus on eradication of malaria in Nigeria.
