The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC)-trained Disease Vector Surveillance Officers(DVSOs); have commenced, the yearly cross-sectional survey of Aedes mosquitoes, at the different Aedes sentinel sites established by NAVRC.
The Sentinel sites were established with the aim to forecast and curtail possible arboviral outbreaks through continuous study. The concept was established by NAVRC in 2018; following re-emergence of Yellow fever outbreaks in Nigeria in late 2017. About 80 middle level manpower pooled from different L.G.As across the states; were trained by NAVRC, in different entomological techniques, to man about thirty sentinel sites were the study is currently being carried out across Nigeria.

2022, surveillance activities started on 20th June and hope to end on the 5th of August, 2022.
it is expected that the following will be established within this period of study:
- The Specie composition, distribution and diversity of Aedes mosquitoes;
- the density of the vectors and change in population dynamics;
- susceptibility of the vectors to various insecticides;
- the viral loads of the vectors
Prior to the surveillance activities; the NAVRC Team paid advocacy visits to relevant authorities to notify them of the ongoing surveillance activities in their different areas.
