As part of the mandate of NAVRC to train middle level manpower in Field and Laboratory Entomological techniques, periodically, opportunities are given to students from different higher institutions of learning; to embark on Industrial Training, Internship, and Excursions in the Centre. This is to offer them opportunity, to integrate classroom theoretical knowledge with practical application, especially, in a world where learning is no longer placed in a single classroom.
Recently; students from Federal University Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, Biology and Microbiology departments, came on a tour of NAVRC. This is to gain first hand knowledge of the different research activities being carried out by the Centre, as such practical knowledge could help them, meet some of their educational objectives.

The Students were taken on a tour of the Insectary and the different Research Laboratories in the Centre: The Entomology, Phytochemistry, and Molecular laboratories; where different research activities are carried out. In each of the laboratories visited, NAVRC seasoned staff were on ground to give them both theoretical and practical lessons; on the different research activities being carried out in the laboratories.
At the Insectary, the students were shown: the different mosquito genera in their different colonies and also taught routine activities in the Insectary such as: Picking of pupae from larval bowls and the introduction of the pupae picked into the cages, to develop into adult mosquitoes.
At the Phytochemistry section; they were taught how plant extracts can be useful in vector control as an alternative to synthetic insecticides, which are not only harmful to both human and animals; but also toxic to the environment, due to their often hazardous nature.
At the Molecular laboratory, the facilitator explained how to carry out the RNA and DNA of the mosquitoes, for vector speciation, and viral detection.

Lessons on basic routine in the insectary
At the end, the students were given opportunity to ask questions based on what they have been taught and seek clarifications in areas where they have need for. Their were obvious feeling of joy amongst the students at the end of the tour, as such visit afforded opportunity to match theory with practical.
