The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC) joins the global world to observe Mosquito Day 2023. The World Mosquito day is used to promote awareness on Malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases. As a Centre at the forefront in the management and control of mosquito-borne infections in Nigeria, NAVRC is not relenting in its effort and commitment towards eradicating the deadly impact of mosquito-borne diseases in Nigeria.
We have continued to seek new innovations and strategies towards eradicating this mosquito menace. Our Scientists have continued to carry out ground breaking researches especially on the use of active plant extracts in the control of mosquitoes and other vectors as alternative to synthetic chemicals. This is not only good for human heaths but will also reduces environmental hazards which the synthetic chemicals may pose. We have also continued to carry out massive public sensitization on measures to curb mosquito infections in human with emphasis on need to shun attitudes of humans that promotes breeding of mosquitoes especially around the homes.
As a Centre with the primary mandate of Vector Management and Control; NAVRC has continued to mount surveillance for possible outbreak of mosquito borne diseases through our Sentinel sites surveillance being carried out across states in Nigeria.
As the global world come together to celebrate the impact and gains made so far in the ‘fight’ against the mosquito menace on this World Mosquito Day, it is important that we leverage on the gains made so far by keeping our environment clean at all times so as to cut down on mosquito population.
There is need for us to continue to work together in efforts being made so far in the control of mosquito-borne diseases, with emphasis on protecting ourselves and loved ones from mosquito bites always.
