The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre is not relenting in the efforts it is making towards vector control and management in Nigeria. The Centre has continued to maintain and sustain active surveillance of Aedes mosquitoes vectors in different sentinel sites across states since 2018. Methods deployed are targeted at the collection of the immature and adult stages of the Aedes of the vector. Recently, the Centre expanded its vector surveillance with the addition of Ekiti and Akwa ibom states. Recall that the Centre had in 2018, set up active vector surveillance sentinel sites in Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, with the addition of Anambra and Ebonyi in 2020. This is to raise early warning signal of yellow fever and other arboviral diseases outbreak for prompt intervention.NAVRC Team with the representative of the CMD Iyin-Ekiti General Hospital during advocacy visit to the CMD
In addition, the Centre will also carry out collection human blood samples in humans with febrile illnesses during the vector surveillance activities. The blood samples will be tested for dengue virus using the ELISA techniques. This research is aimed at determining risk of arboviral infections outbreak in human in order to forestall them.
