NAVRC begins Dengue Virus detection in patients with febrile illnesses, using ELISA Techniques

National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC) begins testing of blood samples  for detection of Dengue Virus in patients with febrile illnesses using the ELISA techniques. The Centre’s molecular biologists had carried out blood sample collections of patients with febrile illnesses in different hospitals sampled.  This study is  to identify febrile symptoms caused by arthropod borne viruses (arboviruses), rather than malaria and typhoid as may be  misdiagnosed sometimes.

The research will also be of great assistance in determining risks of arborviral infection outbreaks in human population, thereby, acting as a pointer for timely interventions; in order to forestall disease outbreaks in humans.
