Mosquito Bites: Not for Me, Not for My Family!!

The Presence of Covid-19 does not mean the absence of other killer diseases. It is important we do not forget that Mosquitoes are still around us to transmit malaria and other killer diseases; more so as the rainy season has set-in, and mosquitoes breeds  more abundantly in this season.

It is therefore  important that you and your  family practice physical distancing with mosquitoes; in order to be free from mosquito bites and its consequent killer infections.

To achieve this; it is important that you observe the following measures always:

  • Constant  environmental sanitation such as-clearing of bushes and drainages around the homes;
  • Inverting and emptying improperly discarded water-holding containers around human dwellings;
  • Properly disposing of discarded water-holding containers such as – tyres, bottle lids,plastics,wooden and metallic containers of all sizes, broken earthen pots, sachet water bags  etc.,
  • Ensure that water drums and  Well water around the homes are properly covered at all times.

All these are found close to  human dwellings  and they  serve as breeding grounds and safe heavens for mosquitoes  to live,breed,multiply and cause havocs to humans and other animals. In addition, it is also important that you and your family maintain physical distancing from mosquitoes, by sleeping under long lasting insecticide treated net (LLIN) always.B

ites from infected mosquitoes can cause diseases such as -Malaria, Yellow fever, Dengue, Zika virus, Chikungunya, O’nyong nyong, Lymphatic filariasis etc.,These mosquito-borne infections can be life threatening and  can  lead  to  death sometimes.
