As the world observe yet another historic World Mosquito Day, it is important we lay emphasis on attitudes of human beings that promotes breeding of mosquitoes especially around our homes. To cut down on mosquito infections we must first of all cut down on mosquito population and it calls for collaborative efforts to win this ‘war’ against mosquitoes. There is need to ensure our water containers are properly covered at all times, stagnant waters are not allowed around our homes, practice proper waste disposal, clear bushes around our homes and also ensure that our gutters are cleaned at all times etc.
The World Mosquito Day is observed annually on August 20th to commemorate Sir Ronald Ross’ discovery that mosquito is responsible for malaria transmission in 1897. The day is also used to raise awareness about the threat of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.
