Today, we join millions all over the world to celebrate “World MOSQUITO Day”. A day set aside to mark the historic discovery of Sir Ronald Ross in 1897 that malaria is transmitted between humans by the female Anopheles mosquitoes. A discovery that revolutionized understanding of how to control malaria. It is also an opportunity for us to evaluate the success that has been made so far in combating the mosquito vectors and its scourge. As we reflect on the this great discovery of Sir Ronald Ross that revolutionized understanding of malaria control, it is important we do not relent in our efforts so far as increasing rate of resistance continue to threaten these gains.Aedes mosquito is the vector for Yellow fever, Zika virus, Chikunguya, Dengue fever etc (Pix Source WHO Website)
