The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC) has concluded this year’s Aedes mosquitoes surveillance activities in the different NAVRC’s vector sentinel sites across the country. The surveillance activities were carried out in Anambra, Ebonyi, Benue, Ekiti ,Niger Nasarawa and Akwa Ibom states. During the surveillance activities; methods were deployed for the collection of both immature and adult stages of the Aedes mosquitoes. The mosquito eggs collected during the activities are preserved and reared to adulthood for insecticidal resistance tests, while the adult mosquitoes collected are identified and preserved for carrying out molecular vector analysis.
Other activities carried out during the sentinel surveillance for Aedes mosquitoes were collection of blood samples from humans with febrile illnesses to carry out Yellow fever, Dengue and other arthropod-borne diseases by the NAVRC’s molecular biologists.
