NAVRC begins house-to-house Sensitization, as a way to curtail further spread of Yellow fever in the affected communities

The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre has begun house to house sensitization of members of Ette and Umuopu, as a way to curtail further spread of  Yellow fever in the communities. The Centre had deployed team of entomologists to the affected communities following the outbreak of Yellow fever in the place. Findings so far based on larval sampling conducted has established the breeding of these vectors in close proximity to humans as was seen in many of the households sampled. This is a huge risk and pose possible risk of the disease spreading to the neighboring communities.

The Centre therefore took it upon itself to educate the people on some attitudes of humans that promote the breeding of these vectors and how to control their spread.

Members of the communities were urged to engage in  practices that will help control further spread of the disease such as:  destroying of the breeding sites of these vectors by properly discarding unwanted containers that can hold water such as tyres, cans and other plastics. Always cover their water containers properly, cultivating attitudes of proper waste disposal, clearing of bushes around their homes and also making themselves available for Yellow fever vaccinations etc.
